The Mensa score

The figure attached to his name is 162, reported by Eastern Eye as the maximum available on the Mensa test he sat, achieved at 11. It should be read as a reported score rather than a measured constant: a supervised paper produces a result on one instrument on one day, and British Mensa's tests are scaled so that a ceiling exists and can be hit.

That ceiling matters for interpreting the number. A score of 162 does not mean the test found the limit of his ability; it means he reached the limit of what that paper could measure. Reporting since has tended to treat the figure as a permanent property, which is not what a test ceiling is.

Child Genius at ten

Before the Mensa result he had already been on television. He appeared in Child Genius, the Channel 4 competition in which British children are tested across memory, mathematics, spelling and general knowledge over several rounds, and reached the final as the youngest competitor to do so, at 10.

The format is unusually punishing for a child of that age. Competitors answer under studio lights with parents watching from the side, and the rounds move through general knowledge into specialist subjects chosen by the child. Reaching the final from the youngest end of the field means having beaten children with two or three more years of schooling.

Eton, and four subjects

By late 2021 Rahala was at Eton College on a scholarship, taking A-levels in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and computer science. That is the most quantitative combination the English sixth-form system offers, and it is the standard route into a mathematics or computing degree.

Eastern Eye also noted his appearance on Britain's Brightest Family, another of the British quiz formats that recruit unusually able children. The pattern by that point was clear: a boy who had spent much of his childhood being tested in public, and who had kept winning.

Countdown

The 2021 Eastern Eye piece was occasioned by Countdown, Channel 4's word and numbers game and one of the longest-running quiz programmes on British television. Rahala reached a final on it, and the article framed the appearance as a step towards more television challenges rather than an endpoint.

Countdown is a different test from Child Genius. It rewards speed with letters and arithmetic under a thirty-second clock rather than accumulated knowledge, and it is played mainly by adults. A teenager reaching a final there is competing outside his own age group entirely.

Where Jasamrit Rahala is now

The most recent position documented in the sources used here is his sixth-form study at Eton in December 2021. No source used for this page reports where he went to university, what he studied, or what he has done since.

That is a real gap rather than a hedge. He was a minor throughout the coverage, and the reporting was tied to television appearances rather than to his life. Claims about his current studies or career that go beyond December 2021 are not supported by this record.
