The route back in
Jeopardy! built the Second Chance tournament for players like Zaheer: contestants who lost a single game against an unusually strong champion and never got a second night. Jeopardy.com reported on 2 February 2024 that Zaheer had won Group One of the Champions Wildcard. The final was played over two days and settled on cumulative score: Zaheer finished on $20,000, ahead of Andy Tirell on $14,800 and Michael Menkhus on $2,799. First place paid $100,000, second $50,000 and third $25,000.
The prize came with a seat at the Tournament of Champions, which began on 23 February 2024. In three tournament stages, Zaheer had gone from a one-game loser to a six-figure winner with a place in the show's premier event.

Her reaction, as the show quoted it, was measured rather than triumphant. "I have had the most wonderful journey," she said. "And the players I met today are just extraordinary." Of the money: "It sounds fake. I can't imagine it. What a gift."
She also named the part that mattered most to her. "As a woman, especially a woman of colour, as a mom," she said, "I had so many people say, my daughters watched you." Quiz television is a narrow stage, but it is a national one, and Zaheer treated the visibility as the prize rather than a side effect.
