The ambush
Talent shows depend on the surprise of an ordinary person turning out to be extraordinary, and the seventeenth season's producers engineered that surprise directly. Rather than walking on from the wings, Baez was seated in the audience, and Crews used the position to spring her act on a panel that did not know it was coming.
The staging is recorded in the season's own account of the round — an unusually specific production detail to survive in a results record, and the only one attached to her name there. It placed an 11-year-old singer in front of Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofía Vergara and Simon Cowell with no preparation on either side.
One qualifier, and out
Her appearance came in the second qualifier of the season, broadcast on 17 August 2022, and her run ended at that round's results show. She did not reach the final.
By that stage of an America's Got Talent season the field has already been cut from thousands of auditions to a few dozen live acts, and each qualifier sends only a small number forward. Elimination at that point is the ordinary outcome for the overwhelming majority of the acts who get that far, including several who go on to larger careers than the winners.
The season she competed in
Season seventeen ran on NBC from 31 May to 14 September 2022, hosted by Terry Crews with Mandel, Klum, Vergara and Cowell judging. It was won by the Mayyas, a Lebanese dance group, with the Australian pole dancer Kristy Sellars as runner-up.
That is the competitive context for a single performance by an 11-year-old: a season decided between a large-scale dance company and a specialist physical act, in which a solo child singer was one of dozens of entries in a summer-long elimination.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: her age at the time, her home town, her category, the qualifier she performed in, the date it aired, the staging detail involving the host, and her elimination at the results show.
Absent from the sources used here: her song, her family, her schooling, any quotation, and any account of her work before or after the show. She was a child performer on network television, and this page carries only what the season record states about her rather than reconstructing a career around it.
What a qualifier appearance is worth
A single televised performance on a network summer show reaches an audience that most working musicians never assemble. It is also, on its own, a weak predictor of what follows: the format's alumni include performers who built careers after early eliminations and winners who did not.
The honest measure of this record is therefore narrow and real. An 11-year-old was selected from a national field, performed live in front of four judges who had been kept in the dark, and was eliminated in the same round. Everything beyond that belongs to sources this page does not have.
