Season 21

America's Got Talent season 21 ran on NBC from 2 June 2026, hosted by Terry Crews, with Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell judging. The finale was scheduled for 23 September, a day after this page was published.

The season results table gives Olivia Befus as a 17-year-old dog act from Midland, Michigan, and records her advancing from the first quarter-final, broadcast on 19 August 2026. Talent Recap's report of 16 September lists her among the acts that reached the season's final.

A trainer rather than a performer

The distinction matters in the discipline. A dog act on a variety stage is the visible half of months of work done off it: conditioning a response, building duration, proofing it against a live arena full of noise and light. The trainer is judged on a routine the dogs have to execute without understanding why the stakes have changed.

Neither source used here describes Befus's routine, the number or breeds of her dogs, or how long she has been training them. The research record describes her as a teen animal act and notes that a mainstream news source is still needed. That gap is stated rather than filled.

What reaching a final means

America's Got Talent takes thousands of auditions through a judges' cut, a set of live quarter-finals decided by public vote, semi-finals and then a final. Every stage after the audition is a national vote. A finalist has therefore been chosen by the country at least twice.

Befus is recorded as clearing the first quarter-final on 19 August and reaching the final by mid-September. What the show's records available for this page do not include is her final placing, because the season had not ended when they were compiled.

The dog act on American television

The format has a long-running affection for animal acts. America's Got Talent season 18, in 2023, was won by the dog act Adrian Stoica and Hurricane, and dog acts recur in the later stages of the British version as well. They translate unusually well to television: the work is visual, it needs no language, and the failure mode is visible in real time.

That context is why a teenage trainer reaching a final is a notable result rather than a curiosity. She was competing in a category the show's audience has repeatedly voted into its closing rounds.

What is documented and what is not

Documented: her age of 17, her home town of Midland, Michigan, her billing as a dog act, her advance from the first quarter-final of America's Got Talent season 21 on 19 August 2026, and Talent Recap's report of 16 September that she had made the final.

Not documented: her date of birth, her school, her family, her dogs, her routine, how long she has trained, and her result in the final. The season was still running at the date of this page. Any placing given for her elsewhere before 23 September 2026 is not supported by the sources used here.
