What happened
Chess.com set out the run on 10 August 2026. She began with the La Plagne Masters in France, scoring 5/9 with a performance rating of 2322, then the Les Menuires Masters, scoring 4.5/9 and gaining 29 points. At the Pontevedra Open in Spain, played from 24 to 30 July 2026, she scored 5.5/9 with a performance of 2465 and gained 184 rating points. At the Leca Chess Open in Portugal, beginning on 31 July, she scored 4.5/9, performed at 2302 and gained a further 122 points.
Pontevedra was the decisive event. There she earned her first International Master norm, together with a Woman Grandmaster norm and a Woman International Master norm; at Leca she added a second WIM norm. By the time the dust settled she was the world's second-highest-rated girl under 20, the twenty-first highest-rated woman in the world, and India's fourth-highest-rated woman.
How a jump like this happens
A rating is a lagging measure. It records the results a player has already produced, not the strength they currently possess, and it moves slowly when a player competes mostly against familiar domestic opposition. A junior who improves rapidly can therefore be badly underrated for months.
Europe's summer open circuit is where that gap closes violently. Tournaments run back to back, fields are deep, and a strong underrated player meets titled opponents every round. Beating a 2400 when you are rated 1985 is worth a great many points; doing it repeatedly, across four events in five weeks, produces the kind of correction Chess.com reported.
Before the run
She began playing in 2021, at nine, according to the research record, and is coached by IM Krishna Teja at the Velocity Chess Academy in Hyderabad. Her earlier results show the trajectory: the 2023 National Schools Under-11 Girls Championship, won while rated 1226 with 7.5/9, and the 2025 Indian National Under-13 Girls Championship, won unbeaten with 9.5/11.
ChessBase India, covering the same story, placed her among three Indian girls born after 2010 already inside the country's top ten women, a cohort that has changed the shape of Indian women's chess within a few years.
What she says she wants
"It feels amazing," she told Chess.com. "I wasn't expecting this much, but I was expecting WGM norms." On her plans she was blunt: "I am completely focused on chess."
And on the destination: "My ultimate goal is to become a GM and world champion, but my current goal is to become a WIM or a WGM." The distinction between the ultimate goal and the current one is the sentence of someone who has been taught to plan in norms and rating thresholds rather than in dreams.
