🇮🇳 Amieyra Khoslla

At 15 she climbed the speed wall in 7.60 seconds, the fastest by any Indian youth athlete

IFSC World Youth Climbing Championships, Arco, Italy, July 2026 • sixth place in the world • Indian national youth speed record • improved her personal best twice in one championship

Speed climbing is the one discipline in sport climbing that behaves like athletics. The route is standardised worldwide — fifteen metres, five degrees overhanging, the same twenty handholds and eleven footholds in the same positions since 2007 — so a time set in Arco is directly comparable to a time set anywhere else, in any year. That is what makes the number meaningful. At the IFSC World Youth Climbing Championships in Arco, Italy, in July 2026, Amieyra Khoslla of India climbed it in 7.60 seconds, finished sixth in the world, and set an Indian national youth record.

The standardised route is the discipline's defining feature and its cruelty. Every competitor has climbed the identical wall thousands of times; the sequence is memorised to the centimetre and executed without deliberation. Improvement therefore comes in hundredths of a second and only from cleaner foot placement, faster hand transitions and a better start. There is no tactical component and nowhere to hide.

Khoslla improved twice inside the same championship. She broke her own personal best in qualification with 7.74 seconds, then bettered it again in the finals round with 7.60 — a fourteen-hundredths improvement in a single competition, on a route where athletes often go a whole season without moving their best time. Fifteen years old, she finished sixth against the world's strongest youth speed climbers.

For context on the mark itself: the senior women's world record sits in the low six-second range and only a handful of women in history have gone under seven seconds. A 7.60 at fifteen is not a world record and was not reported as one — it is a national youth record for India, and it places her within reach of times that would have won world medals a decade ago.

Indian sport climbing is a young federation sport with a thin competitive base and almost no legacy infrastructure; speed walls that meet IFSC specification are rare in the country. Athletes from that environment usually improve on foreign training blocks rather than at home, which makes a top-ten world youth placing a structural outlier as much as an individual one.

The World Youth Championships in Arco are the largest annual gathering in youth climbing, staged at the sport's spiritual home in Trentino, and they run all three disciplines — speed, lead and boulder — across the under-16, under-18 and under-20 age bands. The 2026 edition was reported in India by the ANI and IANS news agencies and carried by The Tribune and the Assam Tribune among others; the placings and times are held in the International Federation of Sport Climbing's own results system.

Speed climbing has been an Olympic medal event in its own right since Paris 2024, separated from the boulder-and-lead combined format that preceded it. That change turned a niche specialism into a discipline with a clear pathway, and it is the reason a national youth record by a fifteen-year-old is worth recording rather than filing away — the athletes setting these times now are the ones who will be inside the qualification window for Los Angeles.

Speed climbing is run on an identical wall everywhere on earth, so a time is a time. Amieyra Khoslla lowered her personal best twice inside one championship, finished sixth in the world at fifteen, and set the fastest mark any Indian youth climber has recorded — from a country with almost no competition-standard speed walls. The 7.60 is a national youth record, not a world record, and it was reported as such.
