Reading the scoreboard backwards
Raw totals at an olympiad mean little without the paper. In 2024 Mitroi scored 35 out of 42 and finished twentieth in a tie. In 2026 she scored 26 and finished tenth. The nine-point drop is a statement about the problems, not about the competitor.
This is why olympiad results are read as ranks first and scores second. A problem committee can shift the entire distribution by ten points with a single unusually hard geometry question, and every contestant's total moves with it. The only stable measure is where a contestant stands relative to everyone who sat the same paper on the same morning.
Three golds
In 2024 at Tskaltubo, Georgia, her scores were 7, 7, 6, 7, 7, 1 — five essentially complete solutions and a serious attempt at the third. In 2025 at Prishtina, Kosovo, 7, 7, 1, 7, 7, 0 for a total of 29 and fourteenth place. In 2026 at Bordeaux, France, 7, 3, 2, 7, 7, 0 for 26 and tenth.
In all three years the first, fourth and fifth problems came out cleanly. Gold every time, from a national team that has been among the strongest in European olympiad mathematics for generations — which means she also had to win a place on that team three years in succession, against a domestic field as deep as most countries' international ones.
What EGMO is
The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad follows the IMO format: six problems over two days, each marked out of seven, a maximum of 42, teams of four per country. It was established to broaden the route into elite competitive mathematics, where girls have been underrepresented at national team level.
The scoreboards are the official record, published contestant by contestant and problem by problem. They are the only source this page needs, and the only one it uses for her results.
The sixth problem
One line recurs in her record: a zero on problem six in both 2025 and 2026. Problem six is traditionally the hardest on the paper, set to separate the top handful of contestants in the world from everyone else, and in most years the great majority of the field scores nothing on it.
