The quarter-final
Season nineteen of America's Got Talent ran its auditions from 28 May to 23 July 2024 and then moved into the live rounds. The quarter-finals were staged between 13 August and 4 September. Arshiya appeared in the first of them, entered in the season's results table as a 13-year-old contortionist from Kashmir, India, and was eliminated at that stage.
The table does not record her running order, her music, or what the routine contained. It records that she was there, how old she was, where she came from and that she did not go through. For most contestants on a show of that size, that is the whole of the surviving paperwork.
A name without a surname
The season's contestant list gives her a single name. No surname appears beside it, and none of the sources gathered for this record supplies one. That is a practical problem as much as a biographical one: without a surname there is almost nothing for a search engine, a newspaper archive or a future profile to attach itself to.
The research note behind this record flags the same gap, and adds that news coverage of the audition could not be reached to confirm it. What follows therefore rests on the season's own tables rather than on an interview, a profile or a family statement.
The season around her
The panel that year was Howie Mandel, in his fifteenth season on the show, Heidi Klum in her eleventh, Sofia Vergara in her fifth and Simon Cowell in his ninth. Terry Crews hosted for a sixth consecutive year on NBC.
Four live golden buzzers were pressed during the quarter-finals: Vergara sent the Hakuna Matata Acrobats through on 14 August, Mandel chose AIRFOOTWORKS on 21 August, Klum chose Dee Dee Simon on 28 August and Cowell chose Sebastian and Sonia on 4 September. None went to Arshiya. The season averaged 4.78 million viewers an episode, with a high of 5.53 million for the third audition show on 11 June and a low of 3.35 million for a quarter-final results night on 21 August.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: her first name, her age of 13, her act, her home region of Kashmir in India, the season and round she reached, and her elimination at that point.
Not documented in the sources gathered here: her surname, her family, where and how she trained, when she started contortion, whether she had competed before, and anything at all about her since September 2024. There is no Wikipedia article in her own name; she exists inside the season nineteen tables and nowhere else in this record.
How far a quarter-final is
The live rounds of America's Got Talent reduce a field built from thousands of auditions to ten finalists. In 2024 the quarter-finals ran across four weeks in August and early September, the semi-finals were held on 11 and 12 September, and the finale was split over 17 and 24 September, the results night drawing 5.46 million viewers. Reaching a quarter-final means surviving the taped audition rounds and being placed in a live network broadcast, which is the point at which the competition stops being edited and starts being decided in the moment.
The acts who went furthest that year were mostly older, and mostly groups. Richard Goodall, a 55-year-old singer from Terre Haute, Indiana, won the season; the dog act Roni Sagi and Rhythm finished second and the drone display group Sky Elements third. Among the season's young soloists, the nine-year-old singer Pranysqa Mishra and the 14-year-old Reid Wilson reached the semi-finals, while the nine-year-old singer and pianist Journeyy went out in the quarter-finals, as Arshiya did.
