The set that made the record
The Guinness entry gives the elements that had to be verified: the venue, Bungalow in Hong Kong; the date, 30 March 2019; the genre, classic house; the duration, over one hour; and the age, four years and 130 days, calculated from a date of birth of 20 November 2014.
The hour is the part that does the work. Record categories for club DJing set a minimum set length precisely so the attempt cannot be satisfied by a child pressing play for a few minutes, and Guinness records that the requirement was met.
A British four-year-old in Hong Kong
The record is credited to the United Kingdom, and the venue is in Hong Kong. The Guinness page does not explain the arrangement beyond the location, so the family's circumstances at the time are not documented here.
What the geography does illustrate is the nature of the category. These records are set wherever a club is willing to book the child, and Hong Kong's late-night venues have appeared in the youngest-DJ category before.
A record that keeps changing hands
Youngest-DJ titles turn over quickly, and they are split by gender and by venue type, which multiplies the number of records available. The male club record was Norbury's from March 2019; a separate female club record was set in Tokyo in July 2023 by DJ RINOKA of Japan at six years and 155 days, and a separate festival category exists as well.
Guinness itself flags the instability on the record page, noting that records change daily and are not immediately published online. Anyone reading a youngest-ever entry is reading a snapshot of a category that is designed to be beaten.
What is documented — and what is not
The Guinness entry is unusually exact on the things it covers and silent on everything else. It gives a full date of birth, an age in days, a venue, a city, a date, a genre and a minimum duration. It carries no quotes, no background on how he learned, no mention of his parents and no account of what he did afterwards.
That means several natural questions cannot be answered from the record: who taught him, what equipment he used, whether he has performed since, and whether the record still stands today. Norbury was four years old at the time of the set, and the absence of personal detail in the published record is appropriate rather than a deficiency in it.
Venti domande, otto minuti di orologio e un percentile misurato su tutti quelli che l’hanno fatto. Senza registrazione.
Fai il test del QI →Why an hour in a club is the hard part
Cheap controllers have made the mechanics of DJing accessible to very young children, which is why the age floor in these categories has fallen steadily. The bottleneck is not the equipment but the booking: a licensed venue has to put a small child on its bill, at an hour when it is operating, in front of an audience.
That is the substance of Norbury's entry. The evidence Guinness accepted is not that a four-year-old could beat-match at home but that a Hong Kong club gave him a slot and he held it for more than sixty minutes.
