Won a Grammy at eight, the youngest individually credited winner in the award's history

Best Children's Music Album, 68th Grammy Awards • 8 years 211 days • Guinness World Record holder

On the first evening of February 2026, a third-grader from Charles County, Maryland, walked onto a Grammy stage that had never before belonged to anyone her age. Aura V was eight years and 211 days old. The album she had made with her father — thirteen songs, more than two years in the making — had just won Best Children's Music Album at the 68th Grammy Awards, and with it she took a record that had stood since 2021.

Aura V was born on 5 July 2017 in the United States. She records with her father, Harold Simmons II, who performs under the name FYÜTCH and worked as a music educator before turning to children's music full time. Their collaboration began in 2024 with a single called "I Am Love, I Am Light" — a father-and-daughter duet that established the template for everything that followed: plain language, big harmonies, and a child's voice treated as an artist's voice rather than as a novelty.

The album that carried her into the record books is called Harmony. It runs to thirteen songs and took more than two years to write and record, a timeline that says something about how the pair work. Children's music is a category where turnaround is usually fast and budgets are small; Harmony was assembled slowly, and it showed. Its title track was named one of Spotify's fifty best kids songs of 2025, months before the Recording Academy voted.

The Grammy came on 1 February 2026 in Los Angeles, in the Best Children's Music Album category. Guinness World Records subsequently ratified what the ceremony had implied: at eight years and 211 days, Aura V is the youngest individually credited winner in Grammy history. The previous holder was Blue Ivy Carter, who was nine years and 66 days old when she won Best Music Video in March 2021. Guinness draws a careful line here that is worth preserving. Leah Peasall was eight when the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack won Album of the Year in 2002, but she was not individually credited on the award; she remains the youngest winner overall, and Aura V is the youngest individually credited one.

The distinction matters because it describes what actually changed. A credited winner is a named artist on the recording, judged as a contributor rather than carried along by one. Aura V's name is on Harmony as a performer, which is why the record moved.

Her account of the night is unguarded in the way that only a child's can be. Asked about the moment on NPR, she described a kind of vertigo: the feeling of having done a thing that could not quite be believed while it was happening. In the same conversation she pushed back, gently, against the machinery of prodigy-making that was already assembling around her, insisting that she was an ordinary girl who still had things to learn.

The Grammy for Best Children's Music Album has existed in one form or another since 1959, and for most of that time it has been the least-watched trophy of the night: awarded in the untelevised premiere ceremony, dominated by veteran folk performers and educational labels, and rarely mentioned in the following morning's coverage. It is also one of the few Grammy categories in which children are eligible as artists rather than as subject matter, which is why the youngest-winner record has repeatedly been set inside it.

Records like this one turn on definitions, and the Recording Academy's credit rules do the deciding. A person who sings on a winning album is not automatically a winner; the award goes to the artists, producers and engineers listed on the submission. That is the difference between appearing on a Grammy-winning record and holding a Grammy, and it is the reason a category most of the industry ignores produced the youngest named winner in the award's sixty-eight-year history.

In March 2026 she and FYÜTCH were honoured at the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, where the outfits they wore to the Grammys went on display — an institutional acknowledgement, arriving a month after the award, that a category often treated as a commercial afterthought had produced something worth keeping.

Children's music sits at the bottom of the industry's prestige ladder: small budgets, fast turnarounds, little critical attention. Aura V's win matters because it was earned inside that category on the category's own terms — a credited performance on a record that took two years — and it still moved a Grammy record that had stood since 2021.

The Guinness distinction between a credited and an uncredited winner is the whole point. Children have appeared on winning recordings for decades. Being named on the award as an artist is a different claim, and at eight years old she is the youngest person ever to make it.
