Sadamoto attended Tokyo Zokei University before beginning his professional trajectory. He served as an animator for Daicon Film, the precursor to the Gainax studio, contributing to the Daicon IV opening animation. In 1987, he received his first major assignment as a character designer for the film Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise. Following this, he provided character designs for several Gainax series, including Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, FLCL, and Diebuster.

Outside of his primary studio work, Sadamoto collaborated with director Mamoru Hosoda on films such as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children. His creative process relies on personal familiarity with the subject matter; in a 2013 interview, he stated that he avoids drawing topics he finds unfamiliar, such as medical or sports-related subjects, as he prefers to maintain authenticity in his work rather than relying on extensive study for technical accuracy.
Public Controversies and Studio Departure
In August 2019, Sadamoto utilized social media to criticize the Statue of Peace, an artwork memorializing comfort women featured in an Aichi Prefecture Museum of Art exhibition. His comments regarding the exhibition's inclusion of political imagery triggered backlash, to which he responded by claiming his objections focused on design rather than political intent. Following the release of Evangelion: 3.0, Sadamoto ceased working on the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy and confirmed his complete resignation from the studio Khara.
