Weghorst joined AZ in July 2016, finishing his first season with 18 goals. During the 2017-18 campaign, he acted as vice-captain and secured 18 goals in the Eredivisie. His performance led to a transfer to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg in 2018 for a reported €10.5 million. He recorded 70 goals across 144 games for the German club, including a hat-trick against Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2019.
English Football and Loan Periods
In January 2022, Weghorst signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Burnley for £12 million. Following the club's relegation to the Championship, he entered a series of loan agreements.
