Born in Luanda on 7 April 1992, he moved to Portugal at a young age, eventually rising through the ranks of the Sporting CP academy to anchor elite squads.
Development and Early Professional Career
Before joining Sporting CP's youth system at age 13, Carvalho played for Recreios Desportivos de Algueirão and União Sport Clube de Mira Sintra. He debuted for the Sporting first team on 3 April 2011. Following a six-month loan at C.D. Fátima, he spent one and a half seasons with Cercle Brugge K.S.V. in Belgium. Returning to Lisbon, he became a core player under coach Leonardo Jardim. During his tenure, he helped the team secure the 2015 Taça de Portugal, playing the full 120 minutes in the final against S.C. Braga.

In July 2018, Carvalho transferred to Real Betis on a five-year contract. His Spanish tenure was defined by endurance and recovery, encompassing 223 competitive appearances, a record for a foreign player at the club. After navigating significant injuries, including a spinal disc herniation in 2019 and a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2024, he concluded his time there in July 2025. He was a pivotal member of the squad that captured the 2022 Copa del Rey.
International Contributions
Eligible for Angola and Portugal, Carvalho committed to the Portuguese national team. His international debut occurred in November 2013 against Sweden. He featured in three World Cup tournaments and two European Championships. A highlight of his national career was the 2016 UEFA European Championship, where he helped Portugal secure the title in France. Additionally, he was named player of the tournament at the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Recent Club Transitions
After departing Real Betis, Carvalho signed with C.F. Pachuca in Mexico in July 2025. He stayed with the club until April 2026, when the contract was terminated by mutual agreement. In August 2026, he moved to Palm City FC in the UAE First Division League to continue his professional career.
