At the age of eleven, Vladislav Tretiak enrolled in the Children and Youth Sports School of the Central Sports Club of the Army in Moscow. He soon assumed the goaltender position, choosing a role that others lacked the courage to occupy. This decision initiated a career that established his status as a premier international ice hockey player.
Professional Development
Born in 1952 in Orudyevo, Tretiak developed his skills within the Soviet system, eventually competing for the powerhouse CSKA Moscow team. By 1971, he earned a spot on the Soviet Ice Hockey League's First All-Star Team. His transition to international recognition accelerated during the 1972 Summit Series, where he participated in every game against Canada.

Tretiak achieved gold medal success at the 1972, 1976, and 1984 Winter Olympics. His tenure included ten IIHF World Championships victories and nine European Championships titles. In 1980, he secured a silver medal during the Winter Olympics. Following a final victory against Czechoslovakia in 1984, he retired from professional play.
Coaching and Administrative Roles
After his playing career, Tretiak transitioned into coaching, notably serving as a goaltender coach for the Chicago Blackhawks beginning in 1990. He also managed goalie training schools in Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit Lakes. On 25 April 2006, he was elected president of the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia, receiving 93 of 96 possible votes.
Political Career
Tretiak served as a member of the State Duma in multiple sessions, including terms from 2003 to 2007 and 2011 to 2016. Representing the Saratov constituency as a member of the United Russia party, he acted as the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sport, and Youth.
