Born in Kamyanske in 1982, Vira Viktorivna Halushka rose to regional prominence under the stage name Vera Brezhneva. She first gained major recognition as a member of the Ukrainian girl group Nu Virgos, before transitioning into a prolific solo music and film career throughout Eastern Europe, anchored primarily in Russia for over a decade.
The Nu Virgos Years
Halushka joined Nu Virgos in 2002 after a casting process aimed at replacing Alena Vinnitskaya. Producer Dmytro Kostyuk assigned her the stage name Vera Brezhneva, referencing the city of her birth. Working alongside Nadia Meiher and Anna Sedokova, she became part of the so-called golden lineup. The group recorded multiple Russian and English-language albums in 2003, including Stop! Snyato! and Biologiya. Following years of sustained success and several Golden Gramophone Awards, she departed the group in July 2007 to begin a solo career.
