In 2007, Okonma co-founded the collective Odd Future alongside collaborators Hodgy, Left Brain, and Casey Veggies. The group gained visibility through their self-released mixtapes and the sketch comedy series Loiter Squad, which aired on Adult Swim from 2012 to 2014. Okonma's solo debut, Bastard, arrived in 2009, followed by the 2011 album Goblin. The success of the single 'Yonkers' brought him widespread attention, though his early work was often labeled as horrorcore, a classification he rejected.
Evolution in Sound and Commercial Success
Following the 2013 release of Wolf, Okonma shifted his sound to incorporate jazz, soul, and R&B elements. This progression continued through Cherry Bomb and the critical success of Flower Boy. His subsequent projects, Igor and Call Me If You Get Lost, both secured top positions on the Billboard 200 and earned Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album. His prolific output continued with the 2024 album Chromakopia and 2025's Don't Tap the Glass.
Entrepreneurship and Directing
Okonma established the clothing brands Golf Wang and Le Fleur, collaborating with labels such as Lacoste, Converse, and Louis Vuitton. He also founded the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in 2012, an annual festival that has featured artists like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.
