His contribution included four consecutive La Liga titles and European success. He registered his highest goal tally for the club in the 1992–93 season, finding the net 15 times.
Final Playing Years and International Duty
In 1995, Begiristain joined Deportivo de La Coruña, where he helped secure a Supercopa de España title with a goal against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. He eventually concluded his playing career in 1999 following a three-year spell with the Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan. Internationally, he earned 22 caps for Spain, participating in UEFA Euro 1988 and the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

After a brief period as a television commentator, Begiristain returned to Barcelona in 2003 as director of football, a role he held for seven years. In 2012, he transitioned to Manchester City.
