Early Career and Education
Raised in a Georgian farmhouse near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, she attended the Agnes Irwin School before enrolling at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1988 with an art history degree, she moved to New York City. Her early professional experience included roles with Zoran, Harper's Bazaar, Vera Wang, and Polo Ralph Lauren. The company, initially titled TRB by Tory Burch, began operations in February 2004. The brand diversified its output significantly over the following decades, including the 2015 introduction of Tory Sport, a performance activewear line. Her industry influence was recognized by multiple organizations, culminating in various design and leadership honors, including recognition by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and being named Designer of the Year by Harper's Bazaar in 2023.
Philanthropic Initiatives
