Thomas Peter Odell, a Chichester-born musician, first gained widespread recognition with his 2012 debut EP, Songs from Another Love. His subsequent career trajectory shifted from major label associations with Columbia Records to operating as an independent artist, culminating in the release of his 2024 album Black Friday and the 2025 publication of his book, A Wonderful Life.
Early Development and Musical Foundation
Born in 1990 to an airline pilot and a teacher, Odell spent part of his youth in Auckland, New Zealand, before returning to West Sussex. He attended Bishop Luffa School and Seaford College. His songwriting practice began in a band where difficulties finding a permanent frontman led him to assume the role himself. Seeking a career in music, he abandoned plans to attend the University of York, worked as a barman, and eventually enrolled at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music.
