Born in 1949 in Galanta, Tulassay completed his initial medical education at Semmelweis University between 1968 and 1974. His 1983 PhD thesis, titled Koraszülöttek patológiás veseműködése, explored the pathological kidney function of premature infants, establishing a research trajectory that lasted for decades.

Tulassay's body of work spans numerous aspects of renal insufficiency, hormonal regulation, and neonatal vascular conditions. His publications include investigations into Atrial Natriuretic Peptide levels in children with chronic renal failure and studies on the hormonal regulation of water metabolism in cases of nephrotic syndrome. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, his research extended into genetic markers and molecular responses, including the variance of ACE and ATI receptor genes in cases of neonatal acute renal failure and the role of Toll-like receptors in coeliac disease.
Professional Recognition
His work within the Hungarian scientific community led to his election as a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2007. He further holds memberships in the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, having joined in 2012, as well as the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Academia Europaea. In 2008, he received the International Dennis Gabor Award. He is also a member of the Batthyány Society of Professors, a conservative organization of academic professionals.
