Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard began his professional path with Liverpool in 1998, establishing himself as a central figure in the club's midfield for nearly two decades. Born in 1980 in Whiston, his career evolved from early academy development at the Merseyside club into a senior tenure that included leadership roles and various major competitive triumphs both domestically and abroad.

Early Development and Breakthrough

Gerrard attended Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School and joined the Liverpool Academy in 1989 at the age of nine. He signed his initial professional contract on 5 November 1997. His first-team debut occurred on 29 November 1998 against Blackburn Rovers. During these formative years, he transitioned from a defensive-minded role to a central midfielder, managing physical setbacks including back problems and groin injuries that required multiple surgical interventions.

Club Achievements and Captaincy

In October 2003, Gerrard assumed the role of Liverpool captain. His trophy collection at the club expanded significantly, notably securing the UEFA Champions League in 2005, where he was named Man of the Match in the final. He also captured two FA Cups and three League Cups. Despite his long tenure until 2015 and a four-year contract extension signed in 2005, he concluded his time at Liverpool without winning the Premier League title.

Transition to Management

Following his playing retirement in 2016 after two years with LA Galaxy, Gerrard moved into coaching. He began with the Liverpool Youth Academy under-18 team. His senior managerial career launched at Rangers in 2018, where he secured a league title. Subsequently, he managed Aston Villa starting in November 2021 before a period leading the Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq from July 2023 until January 2025.
