Early Training and Television
Yoncheva began her formal education at the National School for Music and Dance in Plovdiv, where she focused on piano and voice. During her teenage years, she gained public visibility by hosting a Bulgarian music television program. Her early performance record includes winning several domestic competitions, such as the 2000 Hit-1 competition, where she shared a title with her brother. She later moved to Switzerland to refine her vocal technique under Danielle Borst at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, completing her master's degree in 2009.

In 2007, she participated in William Christie's Jardin des Voix academy, which initiated her focus on baroque repertoire. Her breakthrough arrived in 2010 when she won first place at the Operalia competition alongside a special CulturArte prize. Shortly after, she performed as Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare and made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2013, stepping into the role of Gilda in Rigoletto. Her tenure at the Metropolitan Opera expanded rapidly through leading roles in La bohème, La traviata, and Otello.
Global Performances and Pandemic Response
Beyond North America, Yoncheva performed at Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House, and the Paris Opera. Her 2018 performance as Imogene in Il pirata at La Scala drew significant critical attention. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she maintained an active performance schedule when possible, participating in the 2020 Le Concert de Paris and hosting the Perpetual Music concert series to support musicians affected by industry closures.
