Sébastien Bourdais

Sébastien Bourdais secured his place in motorsport history by winning four successive Champ Car World Series championships between 2004 and 2007. Born in 1979 in Le Mans, France, he transitioned from a youth spent in karting circuits to become a dominant force in American open-wheel racing, ultimately accumulating 76 race victories across his professional career as of January 2025.

Early Career and Formula 3000

The son of a racing father, Bourdais began karting at age ten. He won the 1991 Maine Bretagne League and the 1993 Cadet France title. By 1995, he shifted to single-seaters, competing in the Formula Campus by Renault and Elf Championship. After two seasons in French Formula Renault, he claimed the 1999 French F3 championship. He progressed to the International F3000 Championship, where he earned a victory at Silverstone in 2001 and secured the series championship in 2002 while driving for Super Nova Racing.

Champ Car Dominance

Petersburg. He claimed his first win that year at Brands Hatch and earned the Rookie of the Year title. From 2004 through 2007, he achieved four consecutive championships, matching a feat not seen since Ted Horn in 1948. His tenure included a notable 2006 season where he won four consecutive races to open the campaign.

Formula One and Sports Car Racing

Bourdais entered Formula One with the Toro Rosso team in 2008, recording a seventh-place finish in his debut at the Australian Grand Prix. He raced 27 times for the team before moving into sports car competition. His endurance record includes three runner-up finishes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as a Peugeot Sport driver and a GTE-Pro class victory at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans with Ford Performance. He joined Cadillac Hertz Team Jota for the FIA World Endurance Championship.
