In 1967, Fripp joined forces with Peter and Michael Giles to form Giles, Giles and Fripp. Following the dissolution of that group, he co-founded King Crimson in 1968. Their 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King, utilized rock, jazz, and European classical sensibilities. Despite internal volatility, Fripp remained the consistent driving force, overseeing the band's evolution through various lineups and releases such as In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard, and Islands.
