Renato Fabrizio Tapia Cortijo began his formal professional trajectory in 2013 by securing a four-year contract with Twente. Early Career and European Transition
Before his move to Europe, Tapia trained at Sporting Cristal and the Esther Grande academy, where he earned recognition as the best player at the Night of Stars awards. Although interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur arose during his youth, he eventually joined Twente. His initial period involved appearances for the reserve squad, Jong FC Twente, where he scored his first goal against Willem II in November 2013. Promotion to the first team followed, though his progression was hampered by recurring ankle and knee injuries.

In January 2016, Tapia transferred to Feyenoord on a four-year contract valued at approximately €2.4 million. During his time with the club, he contributed to successes in the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield, and participated in the 2016–17 Eredivisie season. He later moved to Spain, joining Celta de Vigo on a four-year deal in July 2020. By August 2024, he transitioned to Leganés, signing a two-year contract to remain in the Spanish top tier.
International Participation
Tapia represented Peru at both the under-17 and under-20 levels during regional championship tournaments. His senior international debut occurred on 1 April 2015 against Venezuela. He subsequently played in all matches during the Copa América Centenario campaign and was selected for the squad heading to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Beyond his performance on the field, he engaged in public advocacy alongside Edison Flores to highlight the needs of the Quechua people.
