Early Life and Education
Born in Torrance, California, in 1981 to Egyptian immigrant parents, Malek spent his childhood in the San Fernando Valley. He attended Notre Dame High School, where he participated in the drama department and debate team. Following his graduation in 1999, he pursued theater studies at the University of Evansville in Indiana. His academic path included a semester at Harlaxton College in England and an internship at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, culminating in a BFA degree in 2003.

After relocating to New York City and later Los Angeles, Malek navigated the challenges of early acting roles, initially supporting himself through service industry jobs. He gained his first screen appearance in the television series Gilmore Girls in 2004. His early career included work in theater productions such as Johnny Boy and Shoes, as well as providing voice work for the video game Halo 2. By 2005, he obtained his Screen Actors Guild card through a role in the war drama Over There.
Television and Film Breakthroughs
Malek gained widespread recognition for his performance as the lead character Elliot Alderson in the USA Network series Mr. Robot, which aired from 2015 to 2019. This role garnered him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016.
