Born Uppalapati Venkata Suryanarayana Prabhas Raju, he is the son of film producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju and Siva Kumari. He debuted in the 2002 action drama Eeswar. Following early work, he achieved a breakthrough with the 2004 romance Varsham. Throughout the 2000s, he participated in projects including Chatrapathi, Bujjigadu, Billa, and Darling. His performance in the 2013 film Mirchi earned him the Nandi Award for Best Actor. He secured five Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actor in Telugu cinema during this era, building a reputation for commercial viability.
Global Commercial Success
The release of Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015 and its 2017 sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, marked a shift toward national recognition. The latter production became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time of its release. He later headlined Saaho, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, and the science fiction production Kalki 2898 AD.
