A foundational force in the development of industrial music, Peter Christopherson navigated a diverse career as a musician, graphic designer, and director. Born in Leeds in 1955, his trajectory moved from professional design work with Hipgnosis to experimental sonic explorations, ultimately leading him to relocate to Bangkok, where he spent his final years engaged in numerous international collaborations.
Early Development and Design
There, he focused on computer programming, theatre design, and video production. His early visual influences included the work of photographers Arthur Tress and Robert Mapplethorpe, interests that eventually informed his tenure as a member of the design agency Hipgnosis and his later career in film direction.

As a founding member of Throbbing Gristle, Christopherson helped establish the industrial music genre. Following the group's 1981 split, he co-founded Psychic TV with Genesis P-Orridge, contributing to their initial albums. His primary creative partnership, however, was with John Balance, with whom he formed the band Coil. Over two decades, Coil maintained an expansive output, eventually releasing material on their own Threshold House label.
Relocation and Final Works
Following the death of John Balance in 2005, Christopherson moved from England to Bangkok. In Thailand, he established the solo project The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, which combined original music with footage of local rituals. He continued to collaborate with artists including Ivan Pavlov in the project Soisong and worked with Hirsute Pursuit. His final recordings were produced in Bangkok under the moniker Electric Sewer Age.
