In 1986, Gessle partnered with Marie Fredriksson to form Roxette. The duo produced notable hits, including the 1988 single The Look and the 1991 track Joyride. Their studio efforts Look Sharp! and Joyride attained platinum status across multiple territories. Gessle served as the primary songwriter, contributing vocals to several recordings until the band ceased operations following Fredriksson’s death in 2019. The pair maintained an active touring schedule that included performances across six continents.
Solo Success and Continued Projects
Following Fredriksson’s health challenges in 2002, Gessle focused on solo output, achieving critical and commercial success with the 2003 release Mazarin. This album initiated a collaboration with backing vocalist Helena Josefsson and earned him multiple awards, including four Grammis and three Rockbjörnen honors. His discography continued to expand with records such as Son of a Plumber, En händig man, and Party Crasher. Throughout his career, he explored diverse musical projects, including the work of The Lonely Boys, Pers garage, and his pseudonym-based venture, Mono Mind.
