Osama Abdulrzag Hawsawi represented Saudi Arabia 138 times between 2006 and 2018, establishing himself as a fixture in the national side's central defense. Throughout his career, the Mecca-born athlete competed in three AFC Asian Cups and captained his country during the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia.
Early Career and Domestic Success
The defender began his professional football journey at Al-Wehda. Following 59 appearances for the club, he transitioned to Al-Hilal. Under manager Eric Gerets, Hawsawi secured a starting role and was eventually named captain. His tenure at Al-Hilal proved prolific, yielding three league titles in the 2008, 2010, and 2011 seasons, alongside four Crown Prince Cup trophies.

In April 2012, Hawsawi signed a two-year contract with the Belgian side Anderlecht, becoming the first Saudi Arabian to play for the club and within that league. His European experience was limited to a single appearance during a 1–1 draw against OH Leuven on 25 August 2012. He returned to Saudi Arabia in November 2012, joining Al-Ahli for 1.5 million.
Later Years and Retirement
Hawsawi returned to Al-Hilal in 2016 for a reported fee of 5.5 million dollars. During this second spell, he contributed to consecutive league championships and a 2017 AFC Champions League final appearance. After a final stint at Al-Wehda starting in August 2018, he announced his retirement from professional competition on 26 December 2018 via his personal Twitter account.
