Nicholas Williams Arthuer emerged from the youth system of Athletic Bilbao to become a cornerstone of both his club and the Spanish national team. In the 2021–22 campaign, Williams secured a formal first-team contract. His contributions grew significantly over subsequent seasons, highlighted by his play in the 2023–24 Copa del Rey. During the final against Mallorca, he provided the assist for Oihan Sancet’s goal and received the man of the match award. The victory marked the first time the club claimed the trophy in 40 years. He was later nominated for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, finishing in 15th place.
International Competition and World Cup Success
Since his senior debut in 2022, Williams has represented Spain in three major tournaments. He played in the 2022 World Cup and was instrumental in the 2024 tournament victory, where he scored in the final and earned man of the match honors. During the 2026 World Cup, he made six appearances as a substitute, including in the final match, where he assisted the only goal to secure Spain's second world title.
