Born in 1816, Moriz Heider pursued his medical education in Vienna. His early career included a period as an assistant to Georg Carabelli, who lived from 1787 to 1842. By 1858, he had secured the position of associate professor at the University of Vienna. His professional life remained centered in this city, where he established his reputation in the burgeoning field of dentistry.

Heider introduced galvanokaustik, or electrosurgery, into dental procedures, providing a new approach to treatment. Furthermore, he was the first practitioner in a German-speaking country to implement Goldhämmerfüllungen, a specialized technique utilized for the placement of gold fillings. These methods represented a departure from traditional practices of the era.
Collaborative Research and Legacy
Collaboration with histopathologist Carl Wedl, who lived from 1815 to 1891, resulted in the publication of the Atlas zur Pathologie der Zähne. This professional resource was subsequently translated into English as Atlas to the Pathology of the Teeth. Following his death in 1866, his initiatives were continued by Adolf Zsigmondy, who lived from 1816 to 1880. Heider was buried at Hietzing Cemetery.
