The landscaping of Moscow State University at the Lenin Hills during the 1950s stands as a primary achievement in the career of Militsa Prokhorova. Operating within the constraints of the Soviet Union, she transitioned from academic training at Vkhutemas to roles in city planning and large-scale public design, leaving a professional footprint on the Russian landscape before her death in 1959.

Academic Foundation

Born in 1907 in the Novogireyevo District, Prokhorova grew up in a family of engineers. Her formal architectural training commenced in 1924 when she enrolled at Vkhutemas. During this period, she studied under the instruction of Nikolai Ladovsky and Konstantin Melnikov. She completed her studies in 1928, marking her formal entry into the professional field as a member of ASNOVA.

Professional Practice

Prokhorova established her career through government-affiliated design entities. She secured a position within the Design and Planning Workshop at the TsPKiO, which was named after I. Gorky. Beyond this, she contributed to urban development as an employee of Goselenstroy, the official Moscow city planning department. Her professional focus spanned the dual disciplines of architecture and landscape architecture, reflecting the Soviet emphasis on integrating built structures with organized green spaces.

Final Years

The latter portion of her career involved significant site development, most notably the landscaping projects at Moscow State University. Her work served the broader architectural shift toward functionalism and large-scale urban organization. Prokhorova remained in Moscow throughout her career. She died in 1959 at the age of 52 and is currently buried at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery.
