Designated as member number seven of the heavy metal band Slipknot, Mickael Gordon Thomson serves as one of the group's primary guitarists. Born in Iowa in 1973, he joined the ensemble in 1996, eventually becoming the second longest-serving member. His technical contributions have defined the band's sound throughout multiple studio album cycles since their 1999 self-titled debut.
Early Career and Slipknot Integration
Before his tenure with Slipknot, Thomson developed his skills in the Des Moines local scene. He was a member of the death metal band Body Pit, formed in 1993, alongside future Slipknot collaborators Anders Colsefni, Donnie Steele, and Paul Gray. Beyond band activities, he worked as a music instructor at Ye Olde Guitar Shop. He officially joined Slipknot in 1996, replacing Craig Jones, who transitioned to the role of sampler.

Upon joining the group, Thomson adopted a signature mask, initially a latex hockey style purchased from a local retailer. He maintained the design with minor modifications over the years, viewing the iteration as an accurate representation of his persona. The choice of the number seven for his band designation was based on his preference for it as a lucky number.
Collaborations and External Projects
While central to Slipknot, Thomson has contributed to external musical projects. In 2007, he played the second guitar solo on the Malevolent Creation track 'Deliver My Enemy'. He also provided guest lead guitar work for the 2011 album Deathtrip 69 by Necrophagia and appeared in the 2007 music video for the band Lupara.
