Professional Rowing Career
Reinelt began his international rowing career in 2006 as a junior competitor, eventually securing second-place finishes in three U23 World Championship events. In 2010, coach Ralf Holtmeyer promoted him to the senior boat. His tenure as a senior athlete was characterized by sustained success across both World and European Championships. Between 2010 and 2016, he collected two World Championship gold medals and four European Championship titles. His Olympic contributions included a silver medal at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Following the 2016 Olympic Games, Reinelt concluded his competitive rowing career alongside teammates Andreas Kuffner and Maximilian Munski. He transitioned his focus toward his medical education, enrolling at Ruhr University Bochum. In early 2019, he formalized his role within the sport as the physician for the Germany U23 rowing team and was preparing to travel to a training camp in Mequinenza, Spain.
Death and Medical Findings
Reinelt died on 9 February 2019 while skiing in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Despite immediate resuscitation attempts, he could not be saved. A subsequent autopsy revealed that he suffered from asymptomatic Sarcoidosis, which caused an arrhythmia leading to sudden cardiac death. His passing was officially confirmed by the Graubuenden police force.
