The pseudonym Max Martin was invented by Swedish producer Denniz Pop for a credit on E-Type's 1994 track, This Is the Way. Born Karl Martin Sandberg in 1971 in Sånga församling, he transitioned from a heavy metal singer in the band It's Alive to becoming one of the most prolific songwriters and producers in modern pop music history.
Early Musical Foundations
Sandberg grew up in Stenhamra, Ekerö Municipality. He attended Södra Latin and participated in the Swedish public music education system. In 1985, he joined the glam-metal group It's Alive under the stage name Martin White. The band experienced a breakthrough in 1991 when Megarock Records issued their demo. Following the release of their second album, Earthquake Visions, the group struggled with commercial sales, prompting Sandberg to shift his focus toward production at Cheiron Studios.
