Architectural Foundation
Alvary's early life involved a rigorous academic education. He attended a Jesuit school before enrolling at RWTH Aachen University to study architecture. This technical training provided the formal basis for his professional life, occurring during an era when the profession was adapting to the integration of industrial materials such as iron and glass in response to the emerging requirements of railway stations and urban factory structures.

Despite his architectural background, Alvary pursued a notable career as an operatic tenor. His vocal training included instruction from Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt and Francesco Lamperti in Milan. He secured positions with prominent institutions, including the Deutsches Nationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar, the Metropolitan Opera in New York City between 1885 and 1889, and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation in London. He achieved prominence for his performances in Germany and internationally, supported by his membership in the Corps Teutonia-Hercynia Braunschweig.
Final Years
In October 1894, Alvary sustained serious injuries during a fall while rehearsing in Mannheim, a setback from which he did not fully recover. He retired from the stage in 1897 and died the following year in 1898 at Bad Tabarz, also referred to as Großtabarz, in Thuringia. He is buried at Ohlsdorf Cemetery, having lived for 42 years.
