Masaoka Shiki was a Japanese poet, author, and literary critic in Meiji period Japan, born in Matsuyama in 1867. He died in 1902.
He played mainly as a catcher. His honours include Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame and Nihon Ki-in Hall of Fame.
