Early Education and Theatre Training
Before pursuing the arts, Terekhova studied at the physics and mathematics faculty of the National University of Uzbekistan, named after Mirzo Ulugbek, from 1959 to 1961. After an unsuccessful application to the state film school VGIK in Moscow, she transitioned to acting by enrolling in the school-studio of Yuri Zavadsky at the Mossovet Theatre.

Terekhova made her film debut in 1965 with Hello, That's Me!. Throughout the 1970s, she collaborated with directors such as Andrei Smirnov and Ilya Averbakh in Monologue. Her filmography expanded into international co-productions, notably George Cukor's The Blue Bird in 1976 and Konrad Wolf's Mama, I'm Alive in 1977. She gained significant popularity with audiences for her portrayals of Countess Diana de Belflor in The Dog in the Manger and Milady de Winter in D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers.
Directorial Work and Recognition
In addition to her acting career, Terekhova explored film direction and screenwriting. Her professional accomplishments were marked by numerous state honors, including being named Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1976 and receiving the Vasilyev Brothers State Prize of the RSFSR in 1979. She was recognized as the People's Artist of the Russian Federation and later awarded the Order of Honour in 2013. In her later years, she has retired from public life.
