After gaining experience in the studio of John Robert Hanna, White established an independent photographic business in the Newton district of Auckland. The venture faced commercial difficulties and eventually folded. Despite the failure of her private studio, she maintained her practice, creating imagery that remained significant long after the business closed.
Clinical Work and Hospital Documentation
Following the closure of her business, White transitioned into healthcare, working and volunteering as a nurse at the Auckland Mental Hospital in Avondale. During her tenure there, she produced a series of images capturing both the physical structures of the facility and the hospital staff. Her subjects were typically arranged in structured group poses, a technique that distinguishes her body of work.
Final Years
White died on 6 July 1910 at the age of 42. Her death occurred at Waihi Hospital after she contracted tetanus from a nail that pierced her foot. She was interred at the Waihi Cemetery. Her professional legacy persists primarily through the large collection of her photographic glass plates held by the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
