Early Career in Frankfurt
Ludwig Aaron Gans originated from a merchant family in Celle that had maintained a presence there for 150 years. In 1814, he relocated to the Frankfurt Jewish Alley to reside with the Goldschmidt family. Upon his arrival, he secured an apprenticeship at the firm Cassel & Reiss, an enterprise owned by Leopold Cassella. His professional advancement was rapid; by 1820, he had obtained the power of procuration, assuming the role of the company's effective leader.

The year 1828 marked a significant shift in both his personal and professional status. Gans married Rosette Goldschmidt, who was a niece and the de facto adopted daughter of Leopold Cassella. That same year, he became a partner in the firm. His influence continued to grow until 1848, when he reached the position of sole owner of Leopold Cassella & Co. During this period, the firm operated within a changing German commercial environment, defined by the dynamics of trade and regulation.
Family Legacy
Ludwig Aaron and Rosette Gans had six children: Henriette Heidelbach, Marianne Löwengard, Friedrich Ludwig, Pauline Weinberg, Adolf, and Leo. The business interests were eventually passed to the next generation, as his sons became involved in the trade. Friedrich Ludwig joined the company as an apprentice in 1847, later achieving prominence as an industrialist and philanthropist. His brother, Leo Gans, also established himself as a chemist and industrialist. Ludwig Aaron Gans died on 27 June 1871 and was interred at the Old Jewish Cemetery in Frankfurt.
