Born in 1935 in Toulouse, he became a central figure in French cinema and theatre, recognized for his contributions to the arts through both performance and directorial work.
Early Career and Education
Terzieff attended the Lycée Buffon during his youth. His introduction to the performing arts occurred while assisting with a production of La Sonate des spectres, directed by Roger Blin. This experience influenced his decision to pursue a career as an actor. Following his 1953 debut, he participated in various theatrical productions before transitioning into feature film work.

In 1958, he gained prominence after Marcel Carné cast him in the film Les Tricheurs. His career spanned several decades and included collaborations with various directors. He appeared in three films with Claude Autant-Lara, including the 1961 production Tu ne tueras point, and worked with Henri-Georges Clouzot on La prisonnière. His film credits include Les Garcons in 1959, Vanina Vanini in 1961, and Two Weeks in September in 1967. He also appeared in The Milky Way and Medea, both released in 1969, as well as the 1974 television miniseries Moses the Lawgiver.
Later Years and Legacy
Throughout the 1980s, Terzieff focused primarily on theatre. Notable stage appearances during this period included roles in Rouge Baiser, Germinal in 1993, and The Raft of the Medusa in 1998. He returned to film in 2005 for the production Mon petit doigt m'a dit. He received several distinctions for his work, including the Molière Award for Best Actor, the Prix Marguerite Duras in 2009, and the Prize for the best actor of the Union of criticism. He was also named an Officer of the National Order of Merit and a Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres. Terzieff died on 2 July 2010 in the 13th arrondissement of Paris due to lung complications and is buried at Montparnasse Cemetery.
