Early Career and Education
Born in Odense in 1967, Aagaard pursued higher education at Roskilde University, where he earned a master's degree in Business Administration in 1994. His professional path began with roles at the Danish Technological Institute and as a civil servant within the Ministry of Economy and Business. He later transitioned to the Confederation of Danish Industry, managing the environment and energy department.

Aagaard joined the industry organization Dansk Energi in 2006, initially serving as deputy director. In 2009, he assumed the role of director, a position he held until 2022. During his tenure, he was credited with elevating the organization's influence within national energy policy. His departure followed the organization's merger with smaller wind and solar associations to form Green Power Denmark.
Board Affiliations and Professional Influence
Beyond his executive work, Aagaard has held several positions of trust. He has served on the board of Velux Danmark, as deputy chairman of the Technological Institute, and as a member of the energy fund's board. Additionally, he participated in European industry advocacy as a board member of Eurelectric. In 2017, he secured an independent seat for Dansk Energi on the Environmental Economic Council.
Ministerial Tenure and Recognition
Serving as Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities from 2022 through 2026, Aagaard managed Denmark's complex energy tax systems and the economic challenges of its green transition. His contributions to public life and international relations were formally recognized when he was named a commander of the Order of the Dannebrog in 2024, followed by receiving the Knight Grand Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania in 2026.
