Born in 1929 within the Huadu District, Kwong Siu-hing experienced the transition between mainland China and Hong Kong during the late 1940s. She relocated to British Hong Kong in 1947, immediately preceding the conclusion of the Second Chinese Civil War. Kwong's formal involvement in the governance of Sun Hung Kai Properties began significantly later than her initial entry into the corporate sphere. Before her 2008 appointment, she had never served on the board of any Hong Kong company. On 27 May 2008, she replaced her son Walter as chairperson of the board following his ouster. She maintained this leadership position until late 2011, navigating internal family conflicts regarding the management of the firm and the division of the family fortune among her sons, Walter, Thomas, and Raymond.
