Early Development and Collegiate Play

Born in Burlington, Iowa, in 1971, Warner attended Regis High School. Following graduation in 1989, he enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa. He played for the Northern Iowa Panthers from 1990 until 1993. During his senior year, he secured recognition as the Gateway Conference Offensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors after moving up the team's depth chart.

Professional Struggle and Arena Football

After going undrafted in 1994, Warner attended the Green Bay Packers training camp but was released before the regular season. His path continued in the Arena Football League with the Iowa Barnstormers, where he played for three seasons. His performance earned him First-team All-Arena selections in 1996 and 1997. He later achieved induction into both the Arena Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the only player to receive both distinctions.

The Rise of The Greatest Show on Turf

Warner signed with the St. Louis Rams in December 1997. After an interval with the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe, he returned to the United States. Following an injury to starter Trent Green in 1999, Warner assumed the starting role under coach Dick Vermeil. He led an offense nicknamed The Greatest Show on Turf, throwing for 4,353 yards and 41 touchdowns. That year, he secured his first league and Super Bowl MVP titles after a victory in Super Bowl XXXIV.

Career Longevity and Transitions

Warner played 12 seasons in the NFL. After his departure from St. Louis in 2004, he spent one season with the New York Giants. He later joined the Arizona Cardinals, leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XLIII in 2008. He remains the only undrafted quarterback to win a Super Bowl and the only undrafted player to earn both league and Super Bowl MVP awards.
