Academic Formation
Tenenblat attended elementary and junior high school at an Italian school in Turkey before her family relocated to Rio de Janeiro. She completed her secondary education at Bennett College and enrolled at the National Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Brazil. Following her graduation in 1967, she began higher education activities at the Institute of Mathematics of UFRJ. Her master’s studies were conducted at the University of Michigan between August 1968 and July 1969. She subsequently earned her doctorate at the Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada under the supervision of Manfredo P. do Carmo.

Her research focuses on Riemannian geometry, Finsler geometry, and the applications of differential geometry to partial differential equations. Between 1975 and 1978, she held a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Berkeley, where her work was shaped by S. S. Chern. Collaborating with Chuu-Lian Terng, she successfully generalized the Bäcklund theorem for n-dimensional submanifolds of R2n-1. Her professional career includes extensive international engagement as a visiting professor at institutions including Yale University, MSRI Berkeley, the University of Montreal, and Fudan University.
Service and Recognition
Tenenblat served as the President of the Brazilian Mathematical Society from 1989 to 1991. She attained the status of Emeritus Professor at the University of Brasília and has maintained a membership in the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since 1991. Her scholarly contributions are documented in various publications, including the books "Transformações de superfícies e aplicações," released in 1981, and "Introdução à geometria diferencial," published in 1988. She is also a recipient of Brazil’s National Order of Scientific Merit in Mathematics.
