Karl Malone

The 13th overall pick in the 1985 NBA draft became one of the most prolific scorers in league history, accumulating 36,928 career points over 19 professional seasons. Known as "the Mailman," Karl Malone anchored the Utah Jazz offense for nearly two decades, establishing records for free throws made and attempted while earning two Olympic gold medals.

Early Development and College

Born in 1963 in Summerfield, Louisiana, Malone was raised by his mother, Shirley, and attended Summerfield High School. He secured a commitment to Louisiana Tech University in April 1981 after initial eligibility delays. During his three seasons with the Bulldogs, he became an All-Southland selection annually and led the school to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 1984.

Professional Tenure with Utah and Los Angeles

Malone played 18 seasons for the Utah Jazz, where he formed a high-profile partnership with John Stockton. He appeared in the NBA playoffs in every season of his career, reaching the Finals in 1997 and 1998 with the Jazz and again in 2004 during his final campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers. He earned MVP honors in 1997 and was named to the All-NBA Team multiple times, including selections in 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, and 1998.

International Competition and Legacy

Representing the United States, Malone secured gold medals at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympic Games. He was recognized as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996 and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inducted him in 2010 for both his individual career and his participation on the 1992 Olympic team.
