Fijian rugby player Josua Tuisova Ratulevu secured a gold medal for his country as part of the national sevens team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Recognized for a style defined by physical play and strong running, he currently plays in the French Top 14 league as a wing or centre.
Early Career and International Sevens
Born on 4 February 1994, Tuisova began his sporting development in Fiji. His early rugby experience included playing sevens for the Westfield Barbarians, a team captained by his brother, former Fiji sevens player Pio Tuwai. He achieved his international sevens debut during the 2013 Wellington Sevens in a match against Scotland, where he appeared at the rover position.

In July 2013, Tuisova signed with the French Top 14 club RC Toulonnais. He appeared for the team for the first time against Racing Métro 92 in August of that year, recording his first try in a subsequent match against Bayonne. His tenure with Toulon proved successful, as he secured a four-year contract extension in May 2015. Over his time with the club, he contributed to victories in the 2013–14 Top 14, the 2013–14 Heineken Cup, and the 2014–15 ERC Cup. He currently plays for Racing 92.
2023 World Cup Participation
Tuisova was selected for the Fiji squad for the 2023 World Cup held in France. During the pool stage of the tournament, his seven-year-old son, Tito, died on 30 September 2023 following a prolonged illness. Although the tragedy occurred hours before Fiji’s match against Georgia, Tuisova elected to participate in the game and did not attend his son’s funeral. He continued competing for the national team throughout the tournament until Fiji was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
