Foundations of Dau-al-Set
In 1948, he helped establish the Dau-al-Set group and publication. This collective placed him at the vanguard of post-war poets in Spain. His approach merged surrealist influences with a sharp, satirical edge, reflecting a broader interdisciplinary vision that viewed culture and performance as inherently linked. His written output eventually spanned more than 80 books.

His work ranged from formally structured sonnets, sapphic odes, and sestinas to thousands of direct, free-verse poems. Beyond the page, he engaged in graphic design and sculpture, often using sculptural typography. His interest in the para-theatrical arts led to collaborative efforts, including the foundation of the Espai Escenic Joan Brossa in the Born district of Barcelona, working alongside Hermann Bonnín and the magician Hausson.
Documentary Legacy
Throughout his life, he amassed a vast personal archive in studios on Balmes Street and beyond. Following his death in 1998, the Fundació Joan Brossa was established to preserve approximately 52,000 documents, ranging from final drafts and correspondence to administrative records. In 2012, this collection, along with his personal library of 6,000 volumes, was transferred to the Centre d'Estudis i Documentació MACBA.
