Taught by artist Wally Hedrick, he refined his visual arts skills and engaged with the literature of Jack Kerouac. This academic environment fostered his creative trajectory before he pivoted fully toward his career as a rock musician.
Musical Career
Garcia co-founded the Grateful Dead in 1965, remaining with the group for their entire 30-year existence. His philosophy prioritized live improvisation over scripted performances, a trait originating from the era of the Acid Tests.
